Many of the properties that we manage are located in Southern Utah. From our original boutique hotel in Springdale, Cliffrose, to the unique working ranch and lodge at Cougar Ridge, to tiny homes, vacation rentals, and more, Vibrant Management has the perfect lodging option for families, couples, and solo travelers looking to explore this beautiful region.

But for those looking to explore outside of Southern Utah, we have another unique and beautiful property for you to explore. Sointula Lodge is located on remote Malcolm Island in British Columbia. Here, guests can enjoy four- and five-day fishing excursions and wildlife tours, while still enjoying the boutique experience our properties are known for.

Ready to experience one of Vibrant Management’s most unique vacation destinations? Keep reading to learn more about Sointula Lodge.

Sointula Lodge

Located just 15 minutes by boat off the coast of Vancouver Island, Malcolm Island is home to the historic town of Sointula. Founded by Finnish immigrants, this beautiful and unique destination has a rich history and a small-town feel. The island is home to large expanses of unspoiled wilderness, as well as plenty of wildlife.

Sointula Lodge is historic as well. Built in the mid-1900s, the Lodge was built as a working farm. Located on 38 acres, the property is still home to a friendly herd of alpacas that guests can visit. The Lodge itself is where guests will come together for an evening cocktail hour and dinners in the oceanfront dining room. Private cabins provide accommodations for up to 18 guests during each tour.

When not on the water, visitors can enjoy hiking, kayaking and paddleboarding, biking, massages, and more. There’s also a hot tub and old-fashioned sauna available to guests. Sointula’s chefs prepare gourmet meals made with locally sourced ingredients where possible—including plenty of fresh-caught seafood!

Choosing Your Vacation Package

Besides its stunning waterside location, one big thing that sets Sointula Lodge apart from Vibrant Management’s other properties is that it offers all-inclusive packages to guests. The Lodge offers both four- and five-day fishing trips and wilderness trips.

On the fishing trips, guests enjoy daily fishing led by the Lodge’s experienced guides. With just 3 to 4 guests per boat, anglers of all experience levels—including those brand-new to the sport—get personalized help. After a delicious, hearty breakfast, guests can walk straight from the Lodge or their private cabin down to the dock for a morning of fishing. For lunch each day, guests may enjoy a visit from the Lodge’s almost-famous Burger Boat, or a gourmet beach picnic, before going back out for more fishing. Four-course, fine dining meals are the perfect way to unwind after a long, fun day, topped off by some time in the hot tub or a relaxing walk around the property.

Wilderness tours are a similar experience. Guests can customize their daily tours with some wildlife watching, hiking, and other experiences, including some time spent fishing if they choose. On either type of tour, guests have a chance to spot some of the incredible wildlife that’s native to the region, including orcas, bears, wolves, whales, and bald eagles.

Both the fishing and wilderness tours are all-inclusive. Not only does this make planning your vacation a breeze, but it also means not worrying about choosing meals or carrying cash during your trip. The only additional costs guests have are their transportation to and from the Lodge, their British Columbia fishing license, and tips for guides and staff.

Planning a Visit to British Columbia

For guests planning a visit to Sointula Lodge from the U.S., there are a few things you’ll need to know. Because Sointula is located in British Columbia, Canada, you will need to have a valid passport or passport card.

There are a few ways to get to Malcolm Island and Sointula Lodge. Guests can choose to fly to Vancouver and drive to Port McNeill, where they can then transfer by boat to Malcolm Island. Those who want to start the adventure a little early can even take a direct flight to the island by way of a floatplane. If you choose to drive to Vancouver Island, you’ll need to take a British Columbia car ferry and park your vehicle at Port McNeill before transferring to Sointula Lodge via a 15-minute boat ride.

Because the trips are all-inclusive and paid in advance, guests only planning to visit the Lodge will not need to worry about exchanging their currency for Canadian money.
